Cabinet agenda

On Monday, 2 November, at 11:00, the cabinet meets at Maximos Mansion in Athens under Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. The central item is a set of key government priorities for each ministry up to the end of the current parliamentary term. Deputy Prime Minister Kostis Hatzidakis and Minister of State Akis Skertsos will make introductory remarks before the responsible ministers table their proposals. Each minister is due to set out three or four core priorities for their portfolio. The cabinet session is the first of two political meetings the prime minister chairs that day.

Bills on the agenda

Labour Minister Niki Kerameus will present a bill setting rules for the use of artificial intelligence in the labour market and protecting workers on digital platforms. The bill transposes Directive 2024/2831 into Greek law. Justice Minister Giorgos Floridis will present a bill converting the Judicial Police into a security corps. Deputy Minister of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports Giannis Vroutsis will present a bill aligning Greek legislation with the revised Anti-Doping Code of the World Anti-Doping Agency. Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Giorgos Kotsiras will present a progress report and plan for urban transport, under the heading 'Urban transport: tangible progress and the future'. Interior Minister Thodoris Livanios and Development Minister Takis Theodorikakos will table omnibus bills from their ministries.

Executive secretariat of New Democracy

Immediately after the cabinet, Mitsotakis will travel to New Democracy headquarters on Pireos Street. The first session of the party's Executive Secretariat, in the line-up that emerged after the recent party congress, begins at 17:30. The list of members includes Adonis Georgiadis, Konstantinos Kyranakis and Asimina Skondra, alongside Hatzidakis and Mitsotakis, sixteen names in total. The prime minister is expected to give instructions and put the party on alert ahead of the elections.

Political backdrop

Officials at Maximos Mansion insist the country is not yet in a pre-election period and that considerable time remains before the ballot. Reporting in To Vima nonetheless describes Mitsotakis as starting the engines in both government and party. Ministers are already appearing more often in their constituencies, entering what Greek press calls the battle for preference votes. At the cabinet meeting on 30 September, Mitsotakis said:

“It is my responsibility to evaluate the individual behaviour of MPs and ministers.”

Kyriakos Mitsotakis, prime Minister of Greece

On a recent visit to Kilkis he warned officials against complacency and arrogance and asked them to listen to citizens and their problems.
