France has extended the application deadline for the €100 fuel indemnity aimed at low-income heavy commuters from 30 July to 31 August 2026, as pump prices remain elevated amid renewed Middle East tensions.
Deadline pushed back one month
The French government has extended the application deadline for the €100 fuel indemnity known as the "grands rouleurs" (heavy drivers) scheme from 30 July to 31 August 2026. A decree from the Ministry of Action and Public Accounts was published in the Journal officiel on Saturday, 8 August 2026, formalising the extension. Eligible workers must submit their applications via an online form on the tax authority's website, impots.gouv.fr. The one-month reprieve gives low-income commuters additional time to claim a payment designed to offset rising fuel costs.
Who qualifies for the €100 payment
The indemnity is reserved for workers whose reference tax income per share does not exceed €16,880, based on the 2024 tax year. Applicants must also meet a mileage requirement: either a daily commute of at least 15 kilometres one way (30 kilometres round trip) between home and workplace, or more than 8,000 kilometres per year driven in the course of professional activity, including home-to-work trips. Each applicant may receive only one indemnity, and a single vehicle cannot be used to claim multiple payments. The €100 lump sum works out to roughly 20 cents per litre of fuel on average.
From €50 to €100
Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu first announced the measure on 22 April 2026 as a response to pump price increases driven by the war in the Middle East. The indemnity was initially set at €50. On 21 May, the government raised the amount to €100, doubling the support for eligible households. The decision came amid what LesEchos described as a renewed vigour in fuel prices linked to escalating tensions in the Middle East.

The fuel indemnity is explicitly framed as a domestic response to international developments. How to apply
Applications are submitted exclusively online through impots.gouv.fr, where a dedicated form has been opened. The extension to 31 August 2026 means that workers who missed the original 30 July cutoff can still file a claim. The decree specifies that only one indemnity per applicant and per vehicle is permitted, and the eligibility criteria regarding income and mileage remain unchanged from the initial announcement.
