Subsidy extended to 15 November

Greece is extending its state fuel subsidy until 15 November 2026, covering heating oil, diesel and unleaded 95 octane petrol. A joint announcement from the Ministry of National Economy and Finance and the Ministry of Environment and Energy said the amounts will stay at the level that applied during the second half of October. The government presents the extension as support for households and businesses against continuing pressure on international fuel prices. The subsidy is paid at the pump, and the announcement covers the period from 1 to 15 November. The fiscal cost of the extension for that first half of November is estimated at 35 million euros.

Pump subsidies and refinery discounts

At the pump, the state subsidy is 20 cents per litre for heating oil, 15 cents for diesel and 10 cents for unleaded 95 octane petrol. Refining companies continue to offer an additional discount of 20 cents per litre on heating oil and 5 cents per litre on diesel. Added together, the total relief for consumers comes to 40 cents per litre for heating oil, 20 cents for diesel and 10 cents for petrol. The announcement lists no refinery discount for petrol, so its relief comes from the state subsidy alone. The chart below sets out the combined relief for each fuel.

Cost of the wider support package

The government says the total cost of its support measures to date is 1.44 billion euros. Of that, 897 million euros goes to emergency measures against higher energy costs, while 541 million euros goes to permanent measures that raise household incomes. The permanent measures include a larger financial aid payment for pensioners and a wider rent refund scheme. The fuel subsidies at the distribution network are listed at a total cost of 297 million euros. The government also says it is monitoring international energy markets closely and will intervene with targeted measures.
