France prepares to extend targeted fuel subsidies and energy vouchers into 2027 budget
The French government is working to extend targeted fuel assistance beyond 31 August and plans to include energy cheque renewals in the 2027 budget as pump prices remain above 2 euros per litre.

The French government is preparing to extend targeted fuel subsidies originally scheduled to expire on 31 August 2026. Government spokesperson and Minister Delegate for Energy Maud Bregeon announced on Monday, 24 August 2026, that ministers are working to prolong support for heavily exposed sectors. The relief measures focus on specific industries with high fuel consumption, including agriculture, fishing, construction, and road transport, alongside low-income commuters who drive long distances. Retail fuel prices in France have remained above the threshold of 2 euros per litre, sustained by market pressures linked to conflict in the Middle East.

Lescure noted that the government will announce its formal course of action in the coming days.

Energy voucher inclusion in the 2027 budget
In addition to sectoral transport relief, the administration plans to maintain the annual energy voucher program in the upcoming 2027 budget. Bregeon confirmed that the proposed budget will renew the targeted direct payment, which provides between 150 euros and 277 euros to low-income households. In April, 4.2 million beneficiaries received this allocation automatically without submitting separate individual applications. Bregeon explained that elevated energy prices make targeted support necessary for vulnerable citizens who rely on private vehicles to travel to work.
We will propose its renewal in the 2027 budget because we are in a moment when the price of energy is particularly high and because once again we are on targeted aid that is addressed to French people who particularly need it to go to work.
