A 22-year-old woman died at the scene after becoming trapped in a machine at a laundry in Yeles, Toledo, on Saturday morning. Firefighters struggled to free her from the difficult-to-access area.
The accident
At 7:25 a.m. on Saturday, a 22-year-old female worker became trapped in a machine at a laundry on Calle Canteras in Yeles, Toledo. The emergency services 112 of Castilla-La Mancha received the call and dispatched firefighters from Illescas, Guardia Civil officers, and a mobile intensive care unit (UVI móvil). The worker was in a difficult-to-access part of the machine, complicating the rescue. Despite efforts, she died at the scene, and the medical team could only certify her death.
Rescue efforts
Firefighters worked to free the woman from the machine, but the location was hard to reach. The operation was described as complicated. The Guardia Civil also attended to secure the area and investigate. No further details about the machine type or how she became trapped have been released.
Union reaction and safety data
The UGT union in Castilla-La Mancha expressed condolences and demanded a thorough investigation. Silvia López, the union's secretary of Political Union Organization, stated:
2026 will be a particularly tragic year in terms of workplace accidents and this is something we cannot tolerate. What is at stake are people's lives and the pain of many families.
The union noted that the accident "once again highlights the serious problem of workplace accidents in the region." Fatal workplace accidents remain the main concern for occupational safety in Castilla-La Mancha.
According to data from the Spanish Ministry of Labor cited by ABC, 20 workers died in workplace accidents in Castilla-La Mancha between January and May 2026. Another report from ABC, covering January to April, recorded 15 deaths. These figures do not include summer months, which often see additional fatalities.

Recent fatal accidents in Toledo province
The province of Toledo has seen a series of deadly workplace incidents in recent weeks.
