One dead and three hospitalised after road collisions in Wexford and Drogheda

Fatal collision on the N30 in County Wexford

Emergency services and Gardaí responded to a fatal road collision on Friday afternoon along the N30 at Ballymackesy, near Clonroche in County Wexford. The crash occurred outside Boro Valley Fruit Farm shortly after 2:30pm, with emergency personnel alerted at approximately 2:40pm. The incident involved three cars, though one initial report described a two-vehicle crash. A female driver died at the scene, with reports placing her age in her 70s, while one account stated she was in her 80s. Her body was transferred to the mortuary at University Hospital Waterford, and the coroner was notified ahead of a post-mortem examination. The driver of a second vehicle, a man in his 50s, suffered non-life-threatening injuries, while occupants in the third vehicle did not need hospital treatment.

Emergency operations and local community reaction

Units from the National Ambulance Service, the Fire Service, and An Garda Síochána arrived at the Ballymackesy scene within minutes of the crash. The Rescue 117 helicopter was dispatched to assist in airlifting one casualty to a hospital in Dublin. Garda Forensic Collision Investigators shut down the N30 between Enniscorthy and Clonroche to carry out a technical examination, requiring drivers to follow local diversions. Local councillor Bridín Murphy was working remotely nearby when the crash occurred and noted the effect on the neighbourhood.

Serious e-bike collision in Drogheda

Later on Friday at approximately 6:45pm, emergency crews attended a collision on John Street in Drogheda, County Louth. The incident involved an e-bike and a four-wheel-drive vehicle, variously reported as a jeep or van. The cyclist, a woman in her 20s, sustained serious injuries during the impact. Paramedics transported her initially to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, after which she was transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin for further treatment. No other injuries were recorded from the scene.

Gardaí closed John Street for forensic examination, setting up additional closures between Meat Market Lane and the junction of Dyer Street. Investigating officers from Drogheda Garda Station asked motorists who travelled through the area between 6:30pm and 7:00pm on 25 September to provide relevant camera and dashcam recordings.

North Wexford junction collision

Earlier on Friday morning, another collision occurred in north County Wexford, at Craanford near Gorey. Gardaí responded to the scene at the Island Middle junction at approximately 11:30am following a crash involving a passenger car and a heavy goods vehicle. The collision occurred directly in the middle of the junction. Emergency services attended and transported two men to the hospital, including the male driver of the heavy goods vehicle and a male passenger from the car.
