Atlanta Falcons beat New Orleans Saints 45-24 behind Bijan Robinson's 145 rushing yards
The Atlanta Falcons defeated the New Orleans Saints 45-24 on Monday night at the Superdome, rushing for 205 yards to spoil ceremonies marking the stadium's 2006 reopening.
Superdome anniversary ceremonies
The New Orleans Saints hosted the Atlanta Falcons on Monday night to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the reopening of the Superdome following Hurricane Katrina. Ahead of kickoff, retired players Drew Brees, Scott Fujita, Scott Shanle, Deuce McAllister, Devery Henderson, and Curtis Deloatch joined former special teams player Steve Gleason on the field to lead the crowd in the traditional chant. Gleason, who uses a wheelchair due to ALS, blocked a punt in the original 25 September 2006 meeting that Deloatch returned for a touchdown in a 23-3 win. Earlier in the day, New Orleans Mayor Helena Moreno presented Gleason with a key to the city, and Gleason met former Falcons punter Michael Koenen beside the stadium's Rebirth statue. Singer Irma Thomas, who performed the national anthem at the 2006 reopening, sang the anthem once again before an audience of 70,007 spectators that included NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

Running back Brian Robinson added 62 rushing yards and three touchdowns, allowing Atlanta to finish with five rushing touchdowns overall. The Falcons controlled the line of scrimmage, outgaining New Orleans on the ground by 205 yards to 50.

Bijan Robinson explained the team strategy to establish control right from the opening drive:
For it to come after that third play was pretty special. We just went back to the sideline and said, 'That's what we talked about -- make sure that we put it on them early so the crowd doesn't become an issue.'
Offensive efficiency and quarterback performances
Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr., making his second start of the season, completed 15 of 20 passes for 223 yards and one touchdown. Penix connected five times with wide receiver Drake London for 96 yards and threw a 31-yard touchdown pass to Jahan Dotson in the fourth quarter. Atlanta did not punt after the first quarter, scoring touchdowns on five of their last six full offensive possessions to post their highest single-game point total since 2016. Falcons coach Kevin Stefanski praised his quarterback's composure after the win:
Mike played well; he took care of the football and made some really good throws. I really like his demeanor and how he is operating.

The home defeat dropped New Orleans to a 1-3 record, their second consecutive home loss following a road win at Baltimore, while Atlanta improved to 2-2.
Tyler Shough addressed the performance after the final whistle:
It's extremely disappointing. It's embarrassing. I can't say enough good things about fans showing up, the entire process, what this game meant and we fell short as a team.... We've got to do better on all fronts.
