Storm warnings across 11 voivodeships

IMGW has issued level 1 and level 2 storm warnings covering 11 voivodeships across Poland. The most severe, level 2 alerts span the entire warmińsko-mazurskie voivodeship and parts of pomorskie, kujawsko-pomorskie, mazowieckie, podlaskie, and lubelskie. In the level 2 zone, storms will bring rainfall of 35 to 55 mm and wind gusts from 85 to 115 km/h. Some forecasts cite lower figures for the same zone, with rainfall up to 25 l/m² and gusts to 85 km/h, with point gusts near 100 km/h. Level 1 warnings cover parts of pomorskie, kujawsko-pomorskie, wielkopolskie, łódzkie, mazowieckie, świętokrzyskie, lubelskie, and podlaskie, plus the częstochowski county in śląskie and milicki county in dolnośląskie. In those areas, rainfall will reach up to 35 mm and gusts up to 85 km/h. Locally, hail is also possible.

RCB alerts and public warning

The Government Security Centre (RCB) sent alerts to residents of six voivodeships: warmińsko-mazurskie, kujawsko-pomorskie, pomorskie, podlaskie, mazowieckie, and lubelskie. The alert was expanded on Monday to include additional counties in lubelskie (bialski, łukowski, radzyński, and Biała Podlaska) and mazowieckie (łosicki and siedlecki). The RCB message warned of possible power outages and advised people to avoid open spaces.

Warning schedule

Storm warnings take effect from 17:00 on Monday. Level 1 alerts will expire gradually from west to east, beginning at 22:00 on Monday and ending at 3:00 on Tuesday. Level 2 alerts will remain in force until midnight, except in the siedlecki and łosicki counties of mazowieckie and parts of lubelskie, where they will run until 3:00 on Tuesday. In lubelskie, level 1 storm warnings for northern counties will apply from 19:00 on Monday to 3:00 on Tuesday, with a 70 percent probability of storms occurring.

Heat warnings and cooling

Level 1 heat warnings were issued for 19 counties in lubelskie voivodeship, where temperatures will reach 30 to 33°C between 11:00 and 20:00 on Monday, with an 85 percent probability of the phenomenon occurring. Level 2 heat warnings cover most of lubuskie and parts of dolnośląskie and zachodniopomorskie, with maximum temperatures of 30 to 34°C. Level 1 heat warnings also extend to parts of łódzkie, świętokrzyskie, opolskie, śląskie, wielkopolskie, małopolskie, podkarpackie, lubelskie, kujawsko-pomorskie, and mazowieckie, where temperatures will reach 30°C. Heat warnings will remain in force until Monday evening.

Tuesday will bring a marked drop in temperatures, with thermometers showing 21 to 25°C in lubelskie and similar values across the country. IMGW forecaster Przemysław Makarewicz explained that a cold atmospheric front will displace the hot air mass with polar maritime air arriving from the northwest, with pressure rising as a high-pressure wedge from the North Sea builds over Poland.

Longer-range outlook

IMGW's long-term forecast indicates a dynamic temperature pattern in the coming days. After the temporary cooling on Monday and Tuesday, temperatures will gradually rise again, particularly in the south and west. By the second half of the week and into the weekend, strong heat may return with temperatures reaching up to 36°C. The north will remain the coolest region, while the highest temperatures are expected in the south and west of Poland.
