The Enfield shooting
A 35-year-old man was shot dead at the Sun and Woolpack pub on Hertford Road, Enfield, on Monday 19 October at around 9.30pm. He died at the scene from gunshot injuries. The Metropolitan Police describe the attack as believed to be targeted.
The hunt for a suspect
The Metropolitan Police want to speak to Abreham Woldegiworgis, a 35-year-old Ethiopian national with links to Enfield, Haringey and Brixton, in connection with the killing. Police have released before and after images of him. One image shows him in pink trousers, a hat pulled low and a long ginger wig. Officers say he has significantly altered his appearance to avoid capture, and they urge the public not to approach him but to call police immediately.
Arrest and appeal
On Monday 26 October a 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder in the Enfield case, and he remains in police custody. The force issued its new appeal the same day, asking for any CCTV, doorbell, dashcam or mobile phone footage. Chief Inspector Allam Bhangoo, who is leading the investigation, said:
“We are now releasing the details and images of a man we urgently need to speak to in connection with the incident.”
The Woolwich shooting
In a separate case, reports of shots fired on Frances Street in Woolwich, south-east London, came in at around 8.10pm on Thursday 22 October. A 32-year-old man was found in a parked car with a gunshot wound and taken to an east London hospital with life-threatening injuries, and he remains in a critical condition. Police believe the Woolwich suspect fled in a dark coloured saloon towards Woolwich Church Street, and no arrests have been made. Superintendent Charlene Pavitt, who is in charge of policing for the area, said:
“While the investigation is in its early stages, we believe this to be an isolated incident and we have no evidence to suggest that the wider public is at risk.”
Detective Chief Inspector Wayne Jolley, who leads the investigation at the Specialist Crime Command, asked anyone travelling in the area on Thursday night to come forward with information or dashcam footage. Anyone with information can call 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
