Maja Chwalinska receives first-round bye as third seed at WTA 500 in Monterrey
Polish tennis player Maja Chwalinska received a first-round bye at the WTA 500 tournament in Monterrey following withdrawals, advancing directly to the round of 16.
Polish tennis player Maja Chwalinska has arrived in Mexico to compete in the WTA 500 tournament in Monterrey ahead of her debut in the US Open main draw. The 24-year-old was initially set to be seeded fifth, but moved up to the third seed following the withdrawals of Linda Noskova and Sorana Cirstea. The top four seeds receive a bye in the opening round, placing Chwalinska directly into the round of 16.
Chwalinska will face the winner of the opening-round match between wild-card entrant Alycia Parks and Petra Marcinko, with her singles match scheduled no earlier than 25 August. In the doubles competition, she is partnered with Sinja Kraus, where the pair will face Cincinnati finalists Magali Kempen and Aleksandra Panova in the first round.
