Polish police detain three after 15-year-old gives birth and baby vanishes

On Thursday 11 June, around 16:00, a 15-year-old girl presented at the gynaecological department of the Provincial Hospital in Krosno, southern Poland. Medical staff immediately became concerned by her condition. A subsequent examination confirmed she was in the early post-partum period, indicating a recent delivery.

“Yesterday around 4 p.m., police were alerted about a 15-year-old girl who had arrived at the gynaecological ward of the hospital in Krosno. It was initially established that the teenager could have given birth before reaching the hospital.”

Search and detentions

Because the girl was alone and unaccompanied by a newborn, the hospital triggered mandatory safety protocols and notified law enforcement. Officers, along with forensic specialists from the Provincial Police Headquarters in Rzeszów, travelled to the girl's home in the village of Sulistrowa, roughly 15 kilometres from Krosno. Three people have been taken into custody there, but their ages, genders and relationship to the girl have not been disclosed.

“Three people were detained, activities are ongoing – that's all I can say in this matter.”

Unanswered questions

As of Saturday morning, the fate of the newborn remains unknown. Police have not confirmed whether the baby has been found alive, whether the pregnancy was carried to term, or under what circumstances the delivery occurred. Asked directly whether a child had been located, a police spokeswoman declined to answer.

“At this moment we are not providing such information.”

The county prosecutor's office in Krosno is overseeing the investigation. Hospital administration has refused to comment on the teenager's health or the course of the medical intervention.

“The circumstances are being examined by the District Prosecutor's Office in Krosno. The hospital does not provide information on this matter.”
