Romania's autumn Bacalaureat session begins 3 August with oral competency tests, written exams from 10 August

The autumn session of Romania's national Bacalaureat exam opens on 3 August with oral Romanian language competency tests, followed by foreign language and digital assessments through 7 August. Written exams run from 10 to 13 August, with final results on 24 August.

Session opens with oral competency tests

Romania's autumn Bacalaureat session will begin on Monday, 3 August 2026, with the oral Romanian language competency test. The exam is open to high school graduates who did not pass the summer session, those who missed one or more exams, and candidates retaking subjects they failed in previous years. Attendance at all competency tests is mandatory for obtaining the diploma.

Competency test schedule and format

The oral Romanian test runs on 3 and 4 August. Candidates from national minorities will take the mother tongue oral test on 4 and 5 August. The foreign language competency test is scheduled for 5 and 6 August, and the digital competency test follows on 6 and 7 August. Each oral exam is conducted by two examiners: the teacher who taught the subject and another teacher of the same specialty from the school, or from another school if needed.

The results obtained by each candidate in the oral communication competency tests in Romanian, mother tongue, and an international language are expressed by establishing the corresponding competency level, in accordance with national or European grids (therefore, no grades or pass/fail qualifications are awarded).

— Ministry of Education and Research

Digital competency results are also expressed as a level aligned with European standards. Candidates who refuse to answer or fail to appear are marked absent, and the diploma cannot be obtained until all stages are completed.
