Antonis Remos draws over 300,000 fans in Thessaloniki for 30th career anniversary and Mazonakis tribute

Greek singer Antonis Remos gathered more than 300,000 spectators on Saturday evening along the Nea Paralia waterfront in Thessaloniki for a free open-air concert celebrating 30 years in Greek music. The performance began with a delay following a sudden rainstorm that hit the waterfront area around 18:00, though attendees remained in place with umbrellas ahead of the scheduled 20:00 start. Remos opened the evening by addressing the death of fellow singer Giorgos Mazonakis, who died from cardiac arrest at the age of 54 on 9 September 2026. A black-and-white portrait of Mazonakis appeared across the video wall behind the stage as two of his close associates stood alongside Remos. The crowd raised mobile phone flashlights across the shoreline to sing along as Remos performed Mazonakis's track "Aniko se 'mena".

Technical production and venue staging

The staging for the event was built directly in front of the statue of Alexander the Great, featuring a main stage structure reaching 13 meters in height equipped with lighting and sound systems. Organizers positioned ten giant video screens across multiple waterfront locations and toward the Thessaloniki International Fair grounds, supported by 30 broadcast cameras. A ground crew of 1,000 workers coordinated logistics and venue setup, including designated accessibility accommodations for individuals with disabilities. The visual staging featured a fireworks exhibition alongside a coordinated flight show of 1,200 aerial drones over the city. Production operations involved a total of 1,000 musicians and performers participating throughout the evening.

Guest artists and collaborative performances

Television presenter Grigoris Arnaoutoglou hosted the anniversary event, introducing a sequence of collaborative duets and guest appearances. Singer Mando joined Remos on stage to perform their 1996 duet "Emeis", which originally appeared on Remos's self-titled debut album that also launched tracks such as "Gia na tin kerdiseis", "Ti imouna gia sena", and "Min Aporeis". Kaiti Garbi appeared next to sing "Asymfonia charaktiron", the concluding track from her 1997 album "Evaisthisies". Composer Giorgos Theofanous joined the stage at the piano to accompany Remos through several of their shared catalog songs. The international and domestic guest lineup also featured performances by Despina Vandi, Kostas Chatzis, Manos Pyrovolakis, Željko Joksimović, and the Gipsy Kings, alongside 1990s dance acts SNAP!, Mr. President, and Haddaway.
