Italian man remanded in custody for double murder in Aigio, denies any involvement

A 65-year-old Italian man appeared before an investigating magistrate and prosecutor in Aigio on 13 June 2026, where he was formally questioned over the deaths of his 54-year-old partner and her 26-year-old son. The investigating magistrate and the prosecutor jointly ordered his pre-trial detention following hours of testimony and a written memorandum submitted by the defence. He was subsequently taken from the court cells to await transfer to a prison.

Accusations and denial

Facing charges of intentional homicide committed in succession, the man categorically denied any involvement. He maintains he was asleep in a different room of the house at the time of the killings and only became aware of the deaths upon waking and discovering the bodies. He has stated he is willing to cooperate fully with authorities regarding any evidence requested.

Defence arguments and forensic evidence

The defendant's lawyer, Maria Iatropoulou, argued that the decision to detain him was based on a lack of evidence in the case rather than any finding of guilt. She expressed confidence that forthcoming medical and forensic reports would demonstrate his innocence.
