FX comedy series Adults releases second season on Hulu with expanded ensemble storylines

The second season of the comedy series Adults premiered on August 27, 2026, releasing all episodes simultaneously at 9:00 p.m. Eastern Time on Hulu while also broadcasting on FXX. Created by former Tonight Show writers and real-life couple Ben Kronengold and Rebecca Shaw, the television series first debuted in 2025. Following mixed critical reception during its freshman run, the production altered its release structure by distributing a standalone origin story episode titled "Marathon Day" in late July 2026. Platform distributor Hulu subsequently reorganized the series order, placing "Marathon Day" as the opening episode of season one and moving the original premiere episode, titled "The Window", into the second slot. The overarching premise tracks five twenty-something housemates sharing a New York City residence inherited by the family of Samir, played by Malik Elassal.

Character arcs and storyline developments
The sophomore season develops the interpersonal tensions established across earlier episodes. In the season premiere, titled "The Scrub", roommates discover that Paul Baker, played by Jack Innanen, maintains a secret secondary circle of hard-partying male friends from his early years in New York. The revelation occurs after his housemates overhear a FaceTime call, prompting his girlfriend Issa, played by Amita Rao, and Samir to trail Paul Baker to the group's apartment. Housemate Anton, played by Owen Thiele, reacts to the situation by comparing the discovery of Paul's hidden persona to learning that Barack Obama smoked cigarettes. The season also addresses the fallout from the season-one finale, in which Paul Baker married Anton for a green card despite his relationship with Issa, leading into a mutual conflict between the characters. Other story arcs follow Issa's sudden decision to freeze her eggs and career dilemmas for Billie Schaeffer, portrayed by Lucy Freyer.
Production and guest appearances
Although the narrative takes place in Queens, New York City, production takes place in Toronto. Season two broadens its roster with guest appearances from Gaten Matarazzo, Raven-Symoné, Jake Shane, Isaac Powell, Ben Marshall, Zosia Mamet, and Susie Essman. Model and actress Julia Fox also reprises her role as herself, following her initial appearance as Paul Baker's old friend in the season-one episode "Roast Chicken". In an interview with Refinery29 Australia, Freyer described how Fox jokingly insisted on recurring appearances across future seasons.
She was like, 'I wanna come back next season, and the season you don't bring me back is the season you're gonna get canceled.' And I was like, she put a curse on us, and I believe it. And now, she has to be in every season of the show for as long as it runs. And I'm like, 'OK!'
Freyer noted that Fox contributed unscripted comedic lines during production sessions, leading creators Kronengold and Shaw to adapt dialogue to fit her performance style on set.
