Katarzyna Wasick won Poland's first gold at the European Swimming Championships in Paris on 15 August, touching first in the 50m freestyle final in 23.84 seconds, a new national record. The 34-year-old edged Olympic champion Sarah Sjoestroem by two hundredths of a second.
