Zagłębie Lubin secured a 2:1 victory over GKS Katowice on matchday eight of the Ekstraklasa on 12 September 2026, marking the club's 80th anniversary. Supporters at KGHM Zagłębie Arena unveiled choreographies along the sidelines and set off fireworks outside the venue. The fixture mirrored the club's first top-division match on 28 July 1985, when Zagłębie defeated Katowice 1:0 through a goal from Eugeniusz Ptak. Polish national team coach Jan Urban, former national team manager Czesław Michniewicz, Ekstraklasa president Marcin Animucki, and members of Zagłębie's 1991 and 2007 championship-winning squads attended the match. The fixture also served as the debut for Jacek Bednarz, who was appointed club president by the supervisory board on 11 September 2026, replacing Paweł Jeż following the departure of sporting director Rafał Ulatowski.

Stoppage-time penalty and final whistle
Katowice managed to reduce the deficit during second-half stoppage time after an intervention by video assistant referees. Referee Tomasz Kwiatkowski reviewed pitchside video monitor footage of a challenge inside the box, determining that Ukrainian defender Roman Jakuba had stepped on the foot of Marcin Wasielewski.
