Nationwide warning from Friday

The National Meteorological Administration (ANM) has issued an information warning valid from 12:00 on Friday, 30 October, until 10:00 on Sunday, 1 November, covering the whole country for the next three days. It concerns moderate rain, strengthening winds and snowfall at altitudes generally above 1,500 metres, where a snow cover is expected to form. On Friday, gusts of 40 to 50 km/h are forecast at times in Moldova, Dobrogea and Bărăgan. From Friday evening, moderate rain is expected in Oltenia, in the west, north and centre of Muntenia and locally in Transylvania, with 10 to 25 l/mp of water and locally more than 30 l/mp. In the south-west and south, rain should persist until the middle of next week, and winds will pick up again on Sunday, 1 November.

Yellow code for five counties

A separate yellow code for rain covers the hilly and mountain zones of Gorj, Vâlcea, Argeș, Dâmbovița and Prahova, and runs from 05:00 on Saturday, 31 October, until 10:00 on Sunday, 1 November. In those zones, 25 to 40 l/mp of water is expected to accumulate, and locally more than 45 to 50 l/mp. In the Southern Carpathians, above 1,500 metres, snow is expected to dominate, with a cover of 15 to 25 cm. Elsewhere in mountain areas the nationwide warning gives 5 to 15 cm of snow above 1,500 metres. The yellow code therefore comes into force on Saturday morning, after the nationwide information warning has already taken effect on Friday, and it is confined to five counties.

Regional forecast and Bucharest

The daily forecast for Friday puts maxima at 9 to 10 degrees in Bucovina and up to 18 degrees in the hilly zone of Oltenia. Dobrogea and Bărăgan should stay overcast with light rain and temperatures reaching 16 degrees, while northern Transylvania and Maramureș see 16 to 17 degrees. In Bucharest, the ANM expects mostly overcast skies between 10:00 on Friday and 08:00 on Saturday, with light rain of 3 to 8 l/mp mainly in the evening and at night, maxima of 13 to 14 degrees and minima of 9 to 11 degrees. From 08:00 on Saturday until 10:00 on Sunday, the capital should get rain of 10 to 15 l/mp, with maxima of 11 to 12 degrees, below the usual level for the date, and minima of 8 to 10 degrees.

Outlook for November

The ANM's estimates for 2 to 30 November, published on Friday, expect temperatures below normal across all regions in the first week, from 2 to 9 November. Rainfall that week should exceed normal in the southern and eastern regions and locally in the west and centre, while the extreme north-west may see a deficit. For 9 to 16 November, temperatures are forecast close to normal everywhere, with above-normal rainfall in the west and north-west. The following weeks, 16 to 23 and 23 to 30 November, are expected to bring near-normal temperatures across the country, with rainfall near normal and a slight deficit possible in the south in the earlier week. Over the next three weeks overall, the agency expects temperatures close to normal.
