Crans-Montana plans wooden palisade around Constellation bar, scene of New Year's Eve tragedy
The municipality of Crans-Montana wants to build a wooden palisade around the Constellation discobar, where 41 people died and 115 were injured in a New Year's Eve tragedy.
The Crans-Montana municipality has presented a project to build a wooden 'palisade' around the Constellation, the discobar at the centre of the New Year's Eve tragedy that killed 41 people and injured 115. According to the investigation dossier, the Valais prosecutor's office, which is investigating the disaster and has placed the building under seizure, has already authorised the plan.
The municipal lawyer, Gaspard Couchepin, set out the reasons in a letter to the magistrates. The fence would serve hygiene and sanitary purposes, but mainly allow a dignified gathering in view of a commemorative ceremony planned for 1 January 2027. That ceremony has been moved to Grône.
