Wisła Kraków asks PZPN referees' college to review 12 decisions from its 2:0 loss at Legia
Wisła Kraków has filed a 15-page request with the PZPN Referees' College over a list of contested decisions from the 2:0 defeat at Legia Warszawa on 11 October 2026. The club asks for an assessment of 12 situations, including a disallowed penalty appeal and a throw-in that led to Legia's opening goal.
The contested decisions
Legia Warszawa beat Wisła Kraków 2:0 at Łazienkowska on Sunday, 11 October 2026, in the 10th round of the PKO BP Ekstraklasa. The match was refereed by Damian Sylwestrzak, with Paweł Sokolnicki and Adam Karasewicz as assistants and Bartosz Frankowski as VAR. Wisła's complaint centres on the 18th minute, when Legia took the lead from a throw-in that the club says should have gone to Wisła. Replays shown by the club suggest Rafał Augustyniak's right foot was in the air when he released the ball.
The club also points to the 24th minute, when Bartosz Kapustka made contact with Julius Ertlthaler inside the box without a penalty being given. Wisła further lists fouls on Kacper Duda that were not punished with yellow cards for Legia players. In total, the club's letter covers 12 situations and runs to 15 pages with photographic documentation.
The club's request
Wisła filed the request with the chairman of the PZPN Referees' College and copied Ekstraklasa S.A. The club states that it understands the result is binding, but wants to know the criteria used to reach the decisions. The letter is dated Kraków, 12 October 2026.
The referee's position
Sylwestrzak told the Meczyki channel that the throw-in decision and how it was taken are not subject to VAR review, and that the error in the throw-in direction was a perception error by the assistant. He said there was no clear proof that Augustyniak's foot lost contact with the ground, because the camera was 70 to 80 metres away and the image was zoomed. On the Ertlthaler incident he said the contact was insufficient for a penalty.
It is a perception error. The assistant, who was very close, got it wrong this time.
Reactions
Former international referee Adam Lyczmański criticised Sylwestrzak's performance on Liga+ Extra and agreed that Wisła should have been awarded the throw-in and the penalty. Former referee Marcin Szulc, speaking on the Kanał Sportowy channel, said the throw-in decision was wrong and that the goal might not have been scored had it been correct, while saying VAR could not intervene.
Wisła president Jarosław Królewski called several minutes of the match a "sędziowska kompromitacja" (refereeing humiliation) and said the club was being disrespected, citing the wrong club crest on the stadium screen and the way player names were announced. Legia's stadium announcer Łukasz Jurkowski rejected the accusations as a "total lie" and said he had consulted the club spokesperson before the match.
Przecież to jakieś totalne kłamstwo. Jakaś paranoja. W tym temacie zawsze jestem profesjonalny.
The match also drew complaints over the absence of Wisła fans in the away sector, which the club has disputed in the same wave of criticism.
