Wisła Kraków challenges Legia Warsaw over away fan ban ahead of October league match
Wisła Kraków president Jarosław Królewski has demanded intervention from the PZPN and Ekstraklasa after Legia closed its away sector until the end of 2026, barring visiting fans from the 11 October match.
Sector closure at Łazienkowska
Legia Warsaw announced on 28 September 2026 that the visitor section at its Stadion Wojska Polskiego will remain closed to away supporters until the end of 2026. The club attributed the decision to mandatory safety works and the unresolved legal status of land adjacent to the away sector. The restriction takes effect immediately, blocking visiting fans from upcoming fixtures, including the match against Wisła Kraków scheduled for 11 October 2026 at 20:15. Legia cited formal notices issued by the Warsaw Greenery Board and the Warsaw I District Police Headquarters requiring urgent renovation around the stadium sector. The announcement comes less than a month after visiting supporters of Widzew Łódź attended a league fixture at the same venue on 13 September 2026.
Wisła demands intervention from football authorities
Wisła Kraków president and owner Jarosław Królewski issued a formal club statement on 30 September 2026 questioning the sudden prohibition. Wisła announced plans to submit formal inquiries to Legia Warsaw, the Polish Football Association (PZPN), and league operator Ekstraklasa SA regarding compliance with licensing criteria and away supporter regulations. Królewski argued that 11 days provides sufficient time for the authorities and clubs to address technical obstacles.
In times when work is underway to send rockets to Mars, we believe that through the joint efforts of the PZPN, Ekstraklasa, and both clubs, it will be possible within 11 days to install a net, a gate, and several cameras, thereby overcoming the difficulties that fate has placed before us.
Królewski added that the club will evaluate the responses before determining its next steps, which could range from accepting the outcome to pursuing radical measures.
Dispute over land leasing and safety compliance
The Warsaw Greenery Board manages the municipal land bordering the away section and outlined the administrative background behind the dispute. Board spokesperson Karolina Kwiecień-Łukaszewska stated that the city entity has managed the property since 2017 and had not received any formal lease application from Legia Warsaw during that span. Talks between city officials and the club started in the summer of 2026, concluding with a meeting on 13 September 2026 to discuss site development under Warsaw Mayor Ordinance 811/2017 from 5 May 2017. The city authority is preparing a revitalization of the area and requested the club regularize its uncontracted occupation through a lease agreement of up to three years. Legia representatives indicated during September talks that the autumn international break would provide time to address the legal and technical requirements.

Reciprocal fan arrangements and sportsmanship
In his statement, Królewski emphasized that visiting supporters remain an integral component of fair play and competitive integrity in domestic football. He pointed to a previous UEFA Conference League fixture held in Kraków between Shakhtar Donetsk and Legia Warsaw, during which Wisła assisted in admitting 1,500 to 2,000 Legia supporters into the stadium despite heightened organizational complexities. Królewski contrasted that cooperation with the current ban imposed on Wisła supporters for the upcoming matchday 10 fixture. Matchday 10 of the Ekstraklasa campaign resumes on 9 October 2026, leading up to the scheduled meeting in Warsaw two days later.
