Williams sisters to reunite at Wimbledon doubles after All England Club grants wildcard

Legendary duo reunites

Serena and Venus Williams have accepted a wildcard to play doubles at Wimbledon, the third Grand Slam of the season that runs from 29 June to 12 July. The sisters have won 14 Grand Slam doubles titles together, six of them on the lawns of the All England Club. Their last joint Wimbledon triumph came in 2016, ten years ago.

Serena's path to Wimbledon

Serena, a 23-time singles major champion, ended a near four-year break from professional tennis earlier this month at the Queen's Club Championships. She played doubles with Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko, but the partnership ended when Mboko suffered a knee injury that ruled her out of Wimbledon. This week Serena is competing in the doubles draw of the Berlin Open alongside Karolina Muchova. Venus, who turns 46 on Wednesday, returned to sporadic play in the summer of 2025 after her own long pause.

Wildcard list announced

Alongside the Williams sisters, the All England Club handed a men's singles wildcard to three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka, who plans to retire at the end of the season, and to former semi-finalist Grigor Dimitrov. On the women's side, French Open runner-up Maja Chwalinska of Poland, plus six British players including Harriet Dart and Katie Swan, gained direct entry. One women's singles wildcard remains unallocated.

Looking ahead

The Williams sisters are six-time Wimbledon doubles champions and will step onto the grass as huge crowd favourites. Their presence guarantees heightened attention, though neither sister received a wildcard for the singles draws. Serena is focused on testing her body in doubles before deciding on a singles return, while a possible final singles wildcard could go to Venus.
