Weekend road collisions in Heino and Beuningen

Emergency services across the Dutch province of Overijssel responded to a series of vehicle crashes and safety incidents across the weekend of 19 and 20 September. On Sunday morning, a collision occurred on the Rondweg Heino section of the N35 outside Heino. A motorist attempting to cross the provincial road from Dalfsenweg was struck by a vehicle traveling inbound from Zwolle. A separate crash on Saturday morning occurred on Paandersdijk in Beuningen, where a passenger vehicle collided with a car towing a trailer. That impact forced the passenger car into a ditch, injuring one occupant who was taken to the hospital, while the occupants of the second vehicle escaped unharmed.

Serious traffic incidents in Zwolle and Rijssen

In Zwolle, emergency personnel attended two separate incidents involving cyclists on Saturday. Shortly after 01:00 on Saturday night, a lone cyclist suffered serious injuries after falling on Oosterlaan in front of the central railway station. Bystanders intervened immediately after the man lost consciousness and initiated cardiopulmonary resuscitation until police and ambulance crews took over medical care. A trauma helicopter was initially requested for the incident, though it was stood down before landing when the cyclist became responsive, allowing paramedics to transport him urgently to the hospital. Later on Saturday, another collision occurred at the Brink in Zwolle between a bicycle entering from Koewegje and a scooter traveling toward Wipstrik. Both riders sustained injuries, resulting in an urgent ambulance transfer for the cyclist and non-urgent hospital transport for the scooter driver, alongside a full road closure by local police. On Saturday afternoon, emergency crews also managed a two-car collision at the junction of Zanddijk and Holterstraatweg in Rijssen caused by a suspected right-of-way error, which sent one vehicle into a ditch but caused no physical injuries.

Fire service callouts in Hengelo, De Bult and Zwolle

Regional fire departments were also deployed to multiple fire alarms and property incidents across the province during the same period. On Saturday evening, an outdoor sauna situated in the rear garden of a chalet in De Bult caught fire while the resident was inside working. The occupant managed to evacuate the structure safely before the flames spread, allowing firefighters to bring the blaze under control and conduct post-fire safety inspections on the heavily damaged structure. In Hengelo, a passenger car caught fire along Uitslagsweg, where attending fire crews were unable to prevent severe damage to the burning vehicle. In central Zwolle, the fire department mobilized large-scale emergency apparatus to Vijfhoek on Saturday afternoon following reports of a suspected residential structure fire. Emergency personnel determined the incident was a false alarm after discovering the visible smoke originated from an extraction system operating in an eatery situated directly beneath the residential units.

At the crash sites in both Rijssen and Beuningen, emergency responders provided trauma teddy bears to young children traveling inside the involved vehicles to offer comfort following the impacts.
