Netflix wraps Wednesday season three production and sets 2027 release window
Netflix has concluded filming on the third season of Wednesday ahead of an expected 2027 release, sharing a promotional image of star Jenna Ortega at a typewriter while confirming additions including Eva Green and Winona Ryder.
Production wrap and promotional image
Netflix announced on 30 September 2026 that production on the third season of Wednesday has concluded. To accompany the wrap announcement, the streaming platform released a promotional photograph showing lead actress Jenna Ortega seated at a typewriter with her signature braided hair. The image follows an earlier preview released in April 2026 that placed the character in Paris with the Eiffel Tower in the background. While Netflix has not issued a final release date, the third season is slated for premiere in 2027, with potential scheduling in June 2027. The project follows the initial season's standing as the most-watched English-language series in Netflix history, ranking second overall on the platform behind Squid Game.
Cast additions and creative team
The third installment expands the ensemble with several additions, headlined by French actress Eva Green as Ophelia Frump, the sister of Morticia Addams. Green joins recurring collaborators of director Tim Burton, including Winona Ryder, who appears as Tabitha following her work with Burton and Ortega on Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Other newcomers include Lena Headey, Andrew McCarthy, James Lance, Chris Sarandon, Noah Taylor, Oscar Morgan, and Kennedy Moyer.
Burton commented on working alongside several longtime collaborators during the production.
The addition of some dear friends and former collaborators of mine, Winona, Eva, Chris, Noah, makes this season even more special.
Green also commented on taking on the role of Aunt Ophelia within the series.
This show has a deliciously dark and witty world, and I cannot wait to bring my own personal brand of madness to the Addams family.
Plot continuation and returning characters
Series co-creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar designed the third season to broaden the show's scope beyond Nevermore Academy, bringing the narrative to far-flung international locations. The plot picks up after the events of the season two finale, where Enid Sinclair, played by Emma Myers, turned into a rare Alpha werewolf to rescue Wednesday from Isaac Night's character, The Slurp. After Enid fled uncertain if she could regain human form, Wednesday, Uncle Fester, and Thing embarked on a motorcycle search mission. The finale also revealed Aunt Ophelia alive in Grandmama Hester's basement scrawling the message Wednesday Must Die on the wall.
The returning lineup features Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams, Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams, Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley Addams, and Fred Armisen as Uncle Fester. Additional returning cast members include Hunter Doohan, Joy Sunday, Moosa Mostafa, Georgie Farmer, Billie Piper, Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo, Victor Dorobantu, and Evie Templeton, while Joanna Lumley joins the main roster as a series regular.
