Warbud signs 650 million zloty contract for Sinfonia Varsovia's new concert hall in Warsaw
The construction contract for the orchestra's main concert hall was signed on Monday, 12 October 2026, with Warbud as the contractor. The works are scheduled to run up to 42 months, with the hall due to open in 2030.
The contract
Warsaw's city government and the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage fund the project. On Monday, 12 October 2026, Sinfonia Varsovia's director Janusz Marynowski and Warbud president Nicolas Dépret signed the construction contract at the pavilion at Grochowska 272. TVN24 puts the value of the deal above 650 million zloty. Warbud was chosen in August from three bidders qualified for the tender, and Warszawa Nasze Miasto notes that the firm also built the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw. Since 1 April 2026 Sinfonia Varsovia has been a cultural institution co-run by the ministry and the city.
Rafał Trzaskowski announced the signing on the platform X.
We have just signed a contract with the contractor, the company WARBUD. Preparatory works will begin in the coming days and will last up to 42 months.
What gets built
The main hall will seat 1,877 people according to Warszawa Nasze Miasto and TVN24, while Trzaskowski and wnp.pl describe it as nearly 1,900 seats. Atelier Thomas Pucher of Graz designed it with acoustic consultants Müller-BBM and Eckhard Kahle Acoustics, combining a rectangular shoe-box layout with a vineyard layout in which the audience surrounds the stage. The planned reverberation time is 2 to 2.3 seconds at mid frequencies, slightly longer at low frequencies. A chamber hall for about 400 people is included, along with rehearsal rooms, a library, recording studios and a garden linked to a nearby park.
The design drops a concrete hanging wall from the first concept. In its place a partly transparent steel and aluminium lattice frame will hang 3.5 metres above the ground, leaving a free passage beneath it. Marynowski said the garden between the largest historic building and the hall will work as an enormous foyer.
The area will always be open, we have no intention of building a fence or a gate.

Stage one and the project's history
The project dates to 2010, when an international architectural competition was decided in favour of the Atelier Thomas Pucher concept. TVN24 reports that the plan was repeatedly delayed by high costs. A building permit followed in 2019 and a contract for the first stage in 2023. Stage one restored two pavilions and a palace that housed the Veterinary Institute of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW), and the works ended in early September 2026. Doraco, a construction company, carried out that part. The restored buildings now hold two small concert halls, four education rooms, office space, a café, a restaurant, guest rooms for visiting artists and an exhibition space.

What comes next
Marynowski said the construction site must be handed to the general contractor within 30 days, and the contractor then has 42 months to deliver the keys to the new hall. Wnp.pl reports that first works start later this year, with completion scheduled for 2030. Marynowski framed the project as overdue for the orchestra.
Sinfonia Varsovia will no longer be an orchestra without its own place.
Until the hall opens, the orchestra works from the three renovated buildings, which have been running for several weeks and drawing hundreds of visitors.
