Demi Vollering wins her first road race world title in Montreal sprint finish

Dutch cyclist Demi Vollering won her first career world championship title in the road race in Montreal, Canada, defeating Poland's Kasia Niewiadoma in a sprint finish.

National coach Laurens ten Dam had positioned the 29-year-old team leader as the squad's central contender for the event. Vollering launched an attack with 38 kilometers remaining in the race, initially attempting a solo breakaway for the title.

She was later caught by Niewiadoma and Italy's Elisa Longo Borghini before securing the victory in the closing sprint.
