Max Verstappen signs two-year contract extension with Red Bull Racing through 2030
Four-time world champion Max Verstappen has signed a two-year extension with Red Bull Racing to remain through 2030, ending exit clause options and transfer links to Mercedes and McLaren ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix.
Extension through the 2030 season
Red Bull Racing confirmed on Thursday that four-time world champion Max Verstappen has signed a contract extension running through the end of the 2030 Formula One season. The 28-year-old Dutch driver had been on a deal running to the end of 2028, making the new agreement a two-year extension that secures four more seasons with the Austrian team. That previous contract included specific exit clauses that would have allowed Verstappen to leave at the conclusion of the current season if he chose to do so. The announcement was made in the direct buildup to the Dutch Grand Prix scheduled for this coming weekend. Both parties agreed to prolong the partnership to secure long-term continuity ahead of the event.
In his statement, the Dutch driver emphasized the personal connection and stability he has built with the organisation since his arrival.
I have always said it: the team is like a second family for me and I feel very at home.
I came to the team hoping to be able to win races. What we went on to achieve together has been simply lovely and we have shared many incredible moments and won four World Championships.
Resolution of transfer links to Mercedes and McLaren
The multi-year extension resolves months of paddock discussion regarding Verstappen's future in Formula One. During the ongoing campaign, Verstappen had been repeatedly linked with prospective moves to rival outfits Mercedes and McLaren. Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff openly expressed interest in signing the Dutch driver, though Mercedes ultimately decided to keep Kimi Antonelli and George Russell in their race seats. Rumors had also circulated in recent weeks regarding a potential switch to McLaren as a replacement for Oscar Piastri. Beyond team negotiations, discussion had centered on Verstappen's vocal frustration with Formula One's technical regulatory changes, which the driver had criticized repeatedly and resisted endorsing.

Competitive targets and title ambitions
Verstappen has competed with Red Bull Racing since making his debut with the team in 2016, compiling 71 Grand Prix victories and four world championships over that span. The new agreement arrives in a difficult season for Red Bull, whose current car is far from the fight for the Formula One world title. Despite the present performance deficit, Verstappen confirmed his determination to rebuild the team's championship contention alongside the engineering group. He stated that he is pleased with the contract extension and remains committed to the team that supported his entire championship career. Verstappen and Red Bull will begin the remainder of their campaign this weekend on home soil in the Netherlands.
Verstappen reiterated his commitment to the long-term project and praised the personnel working across the garage.
We have the best people and I'm excited to keep working together with everyone to get back to the top again. This remains the ultimate goal that all of us have been working towards and will continue to pursue.
To continue this journey with the same team that I have been with my whole career is really special and something I have always wanted to do.
