Jamie Vardy signs one-year deal to stream live Bundesliga matches on YouTube
Former Leicester City forward Jamie Vardy will broadcast seven Friday night Bundesliga fixtures in the UK and Ireland on his YouTube channel during the 2026-27 season through a Banijay Entertainment deal.
Creator broadcast agreement
Former Leicester City and England forward Jamie Vardy has signed an agreement to broadcast live German Bundesliga matches in the United Kingdom and Ireland on his YouTube channel, "Jamie Vardy's Having a Party". Produced and owned by Banijay Entertainment, the channel agreed to a one-year partnership with the German football league to stream seven Friday night fixtures throughout the 2026-27 season. The coverage begins on Friday, 28 August 2026, with the season-opening match between defending champions Bayern Munich and VfB Stuttgart at 20:30. Viewers on the channel will watch the official live match broadcast alongside real-time commentary and reactions hosted by the 39-year-old striker.
Evolution of creator rights
The arrangement builds upon an initiative started in 2025, when the German league became the first European top-flight competition to award live UK broadcast rights to digital creators. Under the initial framework, Friday night games were shared between That's Football, hosted by Mark Goldbridge, and The Overlap, founded and co-owned by former Manchester United defender Gary Neville, alongside coverage on the BBC Red Button service. In April 2026, The Overlap's media group completed the acquisition of Goldbridge's YouTube channels. Following that transaction, Goldbridge agreed to an extended deal to show 15 live matches during the 2026-27 season, while The Overlap shifted its role to non-live supplementary programming and interviews. Vardy fills the vacant live broadcasting slot previously held by The Overlap.

Audience expansion strategy
The expansion into creator-led streams forms part of the German league's commercial strategy to attract younger demographics and expand audience share in Britain against competition from the Premier League. Traditional television networks maintain their established rights packages in the UK and Ireland, with Sky Sports broadcasting Saturday evening matches, Prime Sport retaining Sunday fixtures on a pay-per-view basis, and Samsung TV providing free-to-air coverage. Creator broadcasts combine the live feed with interactive presenter engagement. The German league explained the addition of the former England striker to its official roster.
The addition of Vardy brings a different, player-led format to the Bundesliga's creator distribution, combining live football with the perspective and personality of one of the Premier League's most recognisable players of recent years.
- Mark Goldbridge (That's Football)
- 15 matches
- Jamie Vardy (Jamie Vardy's Having a Party)
- 7 matches
Transition from active playing career
Vardy enters live sports broadcasting while remaining an unattached free agent on the pitch. His one-year contract with Italian side Cremonese concluded in the summer of 2026 after the club was relegated from Serie A, a campaign in which he registered seven goals in 29 appearances. The striker launched his YouTube channel in June 2026, publishing 94 videos and drawing roughly 12,000 subscribers with football podcast content. Vardy previously spent 13 seasons at Leicester City following a 2012 transfer from fifth-tier Fleetwood Town, scoring 200 goals in 500 appearances, winning the Premier League title in 2016, and claiming the FA Cup in 2021. He also earned 26 caps for England after making his senior international debut at age 28.
