Protests and Heckling Disrupt Roberto Vannacci Security Conference in Turin

Street protests and traffic disruption

A heavy police operation cordoned off streets across central Turin on the morning of 18 September 2026 for a security conference featuring Roberto Vannacci. Vans from the police mobile division and Carabinieri blocked vehicular circulation along Corso Stati Uniti, Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, Corso Inghilterra, and Corso Castelfidardo. Outside the NH Torino Centro hotel, an antifascist demonstration organized by antagonist networks linked to the Askatasuna social centre, which was evicted on 18 December, gathered behind banners declaring opposition to military figures. Demonstrators numbered roughly 50 at early morning assembly points before expanding to approximately 150 participants during a subsequent march along Corso Duca degli Abruzzi. Groups including Extinction Rebellion, Spazio Neruda, and Studenti Indipendenti joined the rally, chanting Bella Ciao and throwing eggs at lines of riot officers, who did not respond with force. Smaller groups attempted to bypass cordons to reach the hotel entrance, but security personnel blocked every access route.

Hall disruption and reactions

Inside the hotel, the conference entitled Urban Insecurity: The Role of Institutions and Entrepreneurs was co-organized by the Fsp Polizia di Stato union and the FMPI federation. The event began under controversy after the Department of Public Security at the Interior Ministry withdrew its initial designation as accredited professional training for police officers, making it an open public event with a live stream instead. Shortly after Roberto Vannacci began speaking, a female audience member interrupted his address by shouting that Italy is a secular country. Security personnel escorted the woman out of the hall as segments of the audience chanted support for the general and shouted remigration.

Vannacci addressed the interruption immediately before resuming his scheduled presentation.

Political positioning and editorial backing

The gathering also provided a platform for broader political coordination around Futuro Nazionale. On the sidelines of the round table, Vannacci met at a bar with independent deputy Emanuele Pozzolo to discuss a governance platform. Vannacci outlined plans for a concise list of 10 to 12 feasible points establishing priorities for the first 100 days of government, designed as a potential proposal for Giorgia Meloni and the governing coalition. The Interior Ministry confirmed that no administrative procedures were underway to dissolve Futuro Nazionale. The conference also received an appearance from Vittorio Feltri, editorial director of Il Giornale, who interrupted Vannacci's speech to shake hands and take the microphone. Feltri announced that he would personally ensure editorial coverage for Vannacci, distancing himself from previous critical coverage in his newspaper.

Local party statements

Enrico Forzese, the regional vicar and provincial coordinator for Futuro Nazionale, criticized the municipal disruption caused by the protest perimeter. Forzese stated that municipal management required decisive intervention once the party assumed broader governance responsibilities, arguing that residents were subjected to prolonged traffic delays caused by unauthorized counter-demonstrations.
