Uber buys workplace catering platform ezCater in $2.3 billion all-cash deal
Uber Technologies agreed to acquire Boston-based catering marketplace ezCater to expand Uber Eats into corporate meal delivery and enterprise accounts.
Acquisition terms and financial scale
Uber Technologies agreed on 6 October 2026 to acquire US catering platform ezCater in an all-cash transaction valued at $2.3 billion (2.04 billion euros). Boston-based ezCater operates a business-to-business marketplace connecting corporate clients with more than 140,000 restaurants across the United States. Founded in 2007, the platform generated over $2.5 billion in gross bookings over the previous 12 months, recording annual booking growth in the high teens. ezCater operates profitably on a non-GAAP operating income basis, with average order values exceeding $400. J.P. Morgan is advising Uber on the transaction, while Evercore is acting as financial adviser to ezCater. The acquisition remains subject to regulatory clearance and customary closing conditions, with completion expected in the coming months.

Integration across corporate and delivery platforms
The purchase brings ezCater into the Uber Eats network and integrates its order management with the corporate client base of Uber for Business. Uber stated that the transaction will give restaurant partners larger group orders and new corporate diners, while corporate clients gain unified tools to manage meeting catering, events, and daily office meals. Delivery couriers operating on the Uber Eats platform will receive new earning opportunities tailored for group orders. Dara Khosrowshahi, chief executive of Uber, outlined the commercial role of catering for restaurants.
Catering is a big business, and can be a huge revenue stream for restaurants. With Uber's reach, we can bring that experience to millions more customers and help restaurants win more of these valuable orders.
Nihad Rahman, chief executive of ezCater, stated that the company will connect its enterprise catering operations with Uber's international network.
We're thrilled to be joining forces with Uber. We're energized to bring our catering and B2B expertise to Uber's global ecosystem of customers, merchants, and couriers.
Corporate growth and delivery investments
ezCater was founded in 2007 and operated for seven years through bootstrapping before securing its first external venture investment of $4 million in 2014. The transaction reflects Uber's continuous expansion of its food delivery operations, a business segment that generates nearly half of Uber's total gross bookings and expands at a faster rate than its ride-hailing services. Alongside the ezCater acquisition, Uber is in the process of acquiring Delivery Hero for $15 billion. The company has also established financial investments and commercial partnerships with automated drone delivery developers Zipline and Flytrex.

Competition in the workplace catering sector
Workplace dining represents a growing competitive segment among food delivery companies in the United States. Rival delivery operator DoorDash entered the workplace catering market on 30 April 2026 through DoorDash for Business, offering tray-style catering in San Francisco and New York along with its Meal Manager system for recurring office food. DoorDash reported that large group team orders grew 30% faster than standard individual meal deliveries. The acquisition of ezCater expands Uber's capacity to compete against rival corporate services for high-value business meal contracts.
