Elderly man chases two brothers with a trident spear over a parking spot in Piraeus

The confrontation

A long-simmering parking dispute in a residential building on Bizaniou Street in Piraeus boiled over on the afternoon of 17 June 2026. Around 14:00, a 77-year-old man (born in 1949, according to one source) began arguing with two brothers who live in the same building, one aged 38 and the other variously reported as 40, 42, or 44 years old. The trigger was a parking spot in the building's pilotis (ground-floor open garage area).

Witness accounts and a 75-second video obtained by local media show the argument escalating rapidly. The older man went to his car boot, pulled out a trident spear measuring 130 centimetres, and advanced on the two brothers, who retreated at a run while one of them tried to call the police on his mobile phone.

“Call the police!”

Residents who had come out onto their balconies shouted for the police to be summoned and urged the elderly man to lower the weapon and calm down. The footage captures the brothers dodging the trident's thrusts as the man pursued them across the garage.

Police response and arrest

Officers from the DI.AS motorcycle unit were alerted and arrived at the scene shortly after. They immobilised the 77-year-old and took him to the Municipal Theatre Police Station, where a case file was opened. The trident was confiscated as evidence.

Charges filed

The suspect faces charges under Greece's weapons law and for attempted dangerous bodily harm. He was led before the competent public prosecutor in Piraeus. Multiple outlets report that the man has a history of frequent altercations with neighbours in the building.

All agree the suspect is 77 years old, though one early report initially described him as 78. The weapon is consistently described as a trident (tríaina) of 130 cm total length, retrieved from the vehicle's boot.
