Private security guards intercepted an intruder on the grounds of former Vice President Kamala Harris's residence in Malibu, California, late Friday evening. The security breach took place around 22:30 local time when private guards identified an unauthorized individual entering the grounds. The person crossed the property boundaries illegally but was stopped by the private security detail before reaching the main dwelling. Spokesperson Eduardo Negrón confirmed that neither Harris nor her husband, Doug Emhoff, was present at the residence during the incident. Negrón conveyed that the couple expressed gratitude to both their security personnel and responding law enforcement officers for their swift reaction to the intrusion.

Last night, security personnel stopped an individual who illegally entered Vice President Harris and Second Gentleman Emhoff's property before the individual reached the home.

Law enforcement response and patrol changes

Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department responded to the Malibu property following an emergency call reporting a suspicious individual. When deputies arrived at the scene, they conferred with the private security guards and approached the individual situated outside the property enclosure. The responding deputies issued warnings and instructed the person to depart the area immediately. The individual complied with police instructions and left the vicinity voluntarily, with no confrontation occurring during the interaction. Sheriff's department officials confirmed that the person was not arrested or detained in connection with the trespassing. Following the Friday night incident, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Lieutenant Jason Duron stated that patrol units will increase their presence around the estate to ensure ongoing safety.

The multi-million-dollar estate in Malibu was purchased by Harris and Emhoff within the past year at a reported cost of more than $8 million. Former President Joe Biden signed an order extending federal protective coverage for Harris beyond the initial six-month limit. President Donald Trump later revoked that extension in August, an action that concluded her taxpayer-funded security after her term ended earlier in the summer.

Past security responses at Brentwood residence

Friday's response at the Malibu estate follows an earlier security disruption at a previous residence tied to Harris in Los Angeles. In January 2025, police officers detained two individuals during mandatory curfew hours near Harris's former property in the Brentwood neighborhood. That police deployment occurred after emergency services received alerts regarding a suspected burglary in progress at the home. Local authorities had established strict curfews across the area due to severe conditions caused by the Palisades and Eaton fires. Investigators determined that neither individual had attempted a burglary, finding no evidence of unlawful acts, and released both persons without arrest.
