MMA fighter Tolea Ciumac arrested for 30 days after street fight in Bucharest Old Town

Altercation on Lipscani Street

A physical altercation occurred on the evening of 12 September 2026 in the Old Town area of Bucharest, directly in front of a venue located on Lipscani Street. The confrontation involved former combat sports athlete Anatoli "Tolea" Ciumac and mixed martial arts competitor Danu Spartanu. According to police reports, the encounter began with mutual physical strikes between the two individuals before escalating, at which point one of the men continued to hit the other repeatedly. Bystanders in the entertainment district recorded the violent altercation on camera.

Footage of the fight began circulating widely across public online platforms on the morning of 13 September 2026. In response, officers from Police Section 27 of the Bucharest General Police Directorate (DGPMB) launched an ex officio investigation. Police identified both men involved in the physical dispute and brought them to the Section 27 police station for questioning and procedural measures.

Initial checks indicated that mutual aggression initially took place between the two men, with the conflict subsequently escalating, in which context one of them continued to repeatedly strike the other.”

Police investigation and court arrest warrant

During the formal questioning at Police Section 27, the victim, identified by judicial sources as Danu Spartanu, stated to investigators that he did not wish to submit a criminal complaint regarding the assault. Despite the lack of an individual complaint, law enforcement authorities moved forward with procedural measures due to the public nature of the violence.

Following the interrogation, Section 27 officers placed Anatoli Ciumac into custody under an initial 24-hour detention order. Prosecutors from the Prosecutor's Office attached to the Sector 3 District Court took over coordination of the criminal file. The investigation focuses on charges of battery or other violence and disturbing public order and tranquility. Ciumac was subsequently presented before judicial magistrates, who ordered a 30-day preventive arrest warrant against the former fighter while the criminal investigation proceeds.

Fighter background and scheduled bout

Anatoli "Tolea" Ciumac is a former professional combat sports athlete originally from the Republic of Moldova who was later naturalized as a Romanian citizen. Over his career, Ciumac achieved widespread public visibility across Romania through his appearances in K-1 kickboxing, kempo competitions, and mixed martial arts bouts, alongside various media appearances and past legal disputes.

Judicial sources reported that Ciumac and Danu Spartanu have a long-standing acquaintance within the Romanian combat sports community. Prior to the confrontation on Lipscani Street, both men had been scheduled to face each other in an official mixed martial arts match organized for 30 October 2026. That scheduled bout was set to take place at the Sports Hall (Sala Sporturilor) in the city of Buzau. Investigators under the Sector 3 Prosecutor's Office continue to examine the case to establish all procedural and factual circumstances surrounding the street encounter.
