Rescue and initial resuscitation
An ambulance from the National Centre for Emergency Care (EKAV) arrived at the scene. Paramedics made strenuous efforts to revive the child and succeeded in restoring his heartbeat and breathing. According to information, the boy regained consciousness and cried, a development described by sources as particularly encouraging. He was then transported urgently to the General Hospital of Rethymno.

At the emergency department doctors continued treatment. The hospital administrator, Giorgos Papakonstantis, told Creta24 that the child was breathing on his own without support.

Despite initial signs of stabilisation, medical staff later determined that intubation was necessary and the boy was transferred to the University General Hospital of Heraklion for intensive care. His overall condition is described as critical.
