
Three hospitalised as fire engulfs two-storey building in Kallithea
A fire that broke out Sunday afternoon in a two-storey building in the Harokopou area of Kallithea has sent three people to hospital, with one resident reportedly jumping from a balcony to escape the flames. Firefighters are searching for possible trapped occupants.
Fire breaks out in Kallithea
A large fire broke out around 16:20 on Sunday in a two-storey building at the junction of Aristidou and Agion Panton streets in the Harokopou area of Kallithea, south of Athens. The flames started on the first floor and quickly spread to the second floor and an adjacent plot. The cause of the fire remains unknown.
Emergency response
The Hellenic Fire Service dispatched 24 firefighters with seven vehicles and a special crane truck to the scene. Firefighters entered the burning building to search for possible trapped occupants. The operation is ongoing, with crews working to prevent the fire from spreading to neighbouring structures.
Injuries and rescues
At least three people have been transported to hospital by the National Centre for Emergency Care (EKAB). One resident, according to local media, jumped from a balcony to escape the flames and suffered lower limb fractures.
Traffic disruptions
To facilitate the firefighting effort, traffic police have closed several roads in the area. Vehicles are prohibited on Aristidou Street from the junction with Harokopou Street, on Agion Panton Street from Thiseos Street, and on Grypari Street from Menelau Street. Drivers are advised to exercise caution and follow police instructions.
