Fatal collision in County Meath

A single-vehicle road collision claimed the life of a motorist in County Meath during the early hours of Sunday, 20 September 2026. Tree collision on the N21 in Limerick

Emergency services responded to a second fatal incident in County Limerick forty minutes later. At approximately 2:40 am, a car carrying three people left the road and struck a tree along the N21 at Cummeen, situated near Adare. The driver, a man in his 20s, died at the scene of the impact. Two passengers travelling in the vehicle sustained injuries and required immediate transport to University Hospital Limerick for emergency treatment. One passenger, a man in his 20s, remained in critical condition following his admission. The second passenger, an adult male teenager, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Officials transferred the driver's body to the mortuary at University Hospital Limerick for an autopsy.

Fatal motorcycle collision in Barrystown

A third fatal collision occurred at Barrystown along the R736 road corridor. The crash involved a van and a motorcycle travelling along the route. The motorcyclist, a man in his 50s, sustained severe injuries in the impact and was pronounced dead. Emergency personnel secured the collision zone to permit initial examination of the vehicles and the surrounding road surface. Authorities arranged for the motorcyclist's remains to be removed to University Hospital Waterford, where pathologists were scheduled to carry out a post-mortem examination.
