Midnight crash on Poseidonos Avenue

A severe road traffic collision occurred in the early morning hours of Thursday, 17 September 2026, along the coastal Poseidonos Avenue in the southern Athens suburb of Glyfada. At approximately 02:00, a passenger car carrying five individuals was travelling along the seaside arterial in the traffic lane directed towards the centre of Athens. Near the junction with Kalypsous Street, the driver lost control of the vehicle under circumstances that remain under official investigation. The car veered off its course, struck the dividing safety railings with significant force, and collided heavily with an adjacent perimeter boundary wall. The impact caused the vehicle to overturn repeatedly and flip over before coming to a rest as a mangled wreck across the roadway.

Following the rollover, three of the five occupants managed to pull themselves out from the damaged passenger cabin despite sustaining severe injuries. Several hours after admission, medical staff confirmed that three of the occupants had succumbed to their severe injuries. According to information released by law enforcement, two of the fatal casualties were men born in 2000 and 2003, while the identity of the third deceased victim remains unconfirmed. The two surviving occupants remain hospitalised in heavy condition under intensive medical monitoring.

Investigators arrived at the intersection of Poseidonos Avenue and Kalypsous Street to inspect road surface conditions, examine impact marks on the barriers, and document the distribution of vehicle debris.
