Taxi driver on Paros fired and faces charges after beating car rental employee over parking spot
A taxi driver on the Greek island of Paros assaulted a car rental employee over a parking space on 13 August, was fired the same week, and now faces police charges after video of the attack went viral.
The incident
On Thursday, 13 August 2026, a young professional taxi driver on the Greek island of Paros attacked an older employee of a car rental company in a dispute over a parking space. The rental employee had parked a "gourouna", a four-wheeled vehicle, in a spot that taxi drivers consider their own designated area. Employer's response
The taxi driver's employer spoke to Cyclades24 and announced that the driver had been dismissed from the company. He condemned the attack unreservedly, describing it as violent behaviour against an elderly fellow citizen.
As the employer of this particular driver, and as a member of the professional taxi sector, I want to unequivocally condemn the incident that occurred on Paros and the violent behaviour towards an elderly fellow citizen of ours.
The employer added that the driver had worked for the company for approximately three years and had not displayed any similar serious behaviour during that time. He stressed, however, that each person is solely responsible for their own actions and choices.
Reputational fallout
The employer expressed concern about the damage caused to his business and to the taxi profession on Paros more broadly. He said the incident had brought significant disrepute both to him personally and to his company, as well as to the entire taxi sector on the island.
It is unfair for the action of one person to characterise an entire professional field, in which people work daily with responsibility, consistency and respect for the passenger.
He noted that the case has now been referred to the justice system, which is competent to fully investigate the facts and assign responsibility where it belongs.
