Andrew and Tristan Tate were taken into custody by US Marshals in Miami on Saturday after the UK Crown Prosecution Service filed new charges of rape, human trafficking, and child indecent images, and requested their extradition.
Arrest in Miami
Andrew and Tristan Tate were taken into custody by the US Marshals Service in Miami on Saturday, 18 July 2026. The arrest occurred just before a fight gala the brothers were organizing, according to TMZ. A spokesperson for the US Department of Justice said the arrests were made "pursuant to extradition proceedings". The arrest warrant remains sealed, and the Marshals Service declined to provide further details. The brothers, who hold dual US and UK citizenship, were detained at the request of British authorities.
New charges from the UK
The UK Crown Prosecution Service announced that it had authorised additional charges against the brothers, bringing the total number of alleged victims to seven. Andrew Tate, 39, faces seven new counts of rape, three counts of arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation, three counts of assault causing actual bodily harm, and 19 further counts relating to indecent images of children and extreme pornography. Tristan Tate, 38, faces one count of sexual assault, two counts of rape, and three counts of trafficking. The alleged offences span July 2010 to August 2017.
We have decided to prosecute Andrew and Tristan Tate for further offences including rape, arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation and offences relating to indecent images of a child.
McHaffie added that the decisions followed a supplementary evidence file from Bedfordshire Police. The new charges are in addition to an existing UK case in which the CPS had already filed 21 charges against the brothers, including rape, grievous bodily harm, and human trafficking. Andrew Tate faced 10 counts in that initial case, while Tristan Tate faced 11.
Legal history across three countries
The Tate brothers have been under criminal investigation in Romania since December 2022, when they were detained on charges of human trafficking, rape, money laundering, and forming an organised criminal group. They spent three months in pre-trial detention and were placed under house arrest in March 2023. In February 2025, they were permitted to leave Romania. Andrew Tate also faces a civil trial in the UK this year, brought by four women who allege physical and sexual abuse between 2013 and 2015. He denies the claims, stating in his written defence that all sexual activity was consensual.

Defence response
Joseph McBride, a lawyer for the brothers, told CNN that his clients are innocent and criticised the extradition request. He said there was an agreement between the UK and Romanian governments that Britain would not seek extradition while the Romanian case was ongoing.
They are innocent. This is a political trick.
McBride expressed confidence that the brothers would be released soon. The Tate brothers have built a large online following by promoting hypermasculinity and wealth, and Andrew Tate has previously described himself as a misogynist.
Next steps
The brothers are expected to appear before a federal court in Miami next week. The UK has formally requested their extradition, and the US legal process will now determine whether they are transferred to British custody. The case adds to a complex web of legal proceedings spanning the US, UK, and Romania.
