Armed attackers opened fire on a passenger bus in the central Syrian province of Homs on Wednesday, leaving seven people dead and four others wounded. The perpetrators fled the area immediately after carrying out the shooting. Syrian state news agency SANA reported the casualty toll and confirmed that the gunmen escaped. No organization or insurgent group has claimed responsibility for the assault.

Utility and corporate personnel targeted
The bus was carrying a group of technical personnel when it came under gunfire along its route. Passengers on board included engineers and workers employed by a private company. An employee of the state-run Syrian Electricity Establishment was also among the passengers on the vehicle. A security source speaking to Agence France-Presse confirmed that the Syrian Electricity Establishment worker was among the seven fatalities. Emergency teams treated the four survivors who sustained injuries in the shooting.
Explosions across natural gas network
The assault in Homs followed a separate disruption targeting Syrian energy infrastructure earlier on Wednesday. State media reported that an explosion struck a natural gas pipeline situated near one of the primary power generation plants in the country, located close to Damascus.
