Life-threatening attack on Sunday morning
In the early hours of Sunday, June 21, a 23-year-old man was attacked with a pointed object. The blow struck his head, causing life-threatening injuries. He was taken to hospital and his condition remains critical. The assailant or assailants fled the scene and are still at large. The incident occurred in the night from Saturday to Sunday, after the CSD celebrations had wound down. The exact location and the nature of the pointed object used have not been disclosed. The victim's identity has not been released.
Göttingen police quickly established a murder commission to handle the investigation. Because a political motivation could not be excluded, the state security service (Staatsschutz) was closely integrated into the commission's work.

The state security commissariat is now examining whether the man acted with a queer-hostile motive.
