Italian Serie A club Fiorentina finalized the signing of Portuguese attacking midfielder Pedro Gonçalves on a season-long loan from Sporting CP on 1 September 2026. The Florence club agreed to pay an immediate loan fee of €2.5 million, with a purchase clause set at €22.5 million that can become mandatory if specific performance objectives are achieved. The move concluded extensive transfer discussions after earlier talks with clubs in Saudi Arabia did not yield a permanent transfer. The 28-year-old, who traveled from Lisbon to Italy on a private flight, secured his Serie A registration alongside teammate Daniel Bragança just before the transfer deadline closed across Italy, France, and Germany.
Six seasons and seven trophies in Lisbon
Gonçalves joined Sporting in the summer of 2020 from Famalicão, having previously spent time in the youth setups of Braga and Valencia before making his senior debut with Wolverhampton in the 2018/19 campaign. In his debut season in Lisbon, he scored 23 goals to finish as the Primeira Liga top scorer, helping Sporting secure their first league title in 19 years. Across six seasons at Alvalade, Gonçalves compiled 97 goals and 58 assists in 239 appearances. He won seven trophies with the club, comprising three league titles in 2020/21, 2023/24, and 2024/25, two Portuguese League Cups, one Portuguese Cup, and one Super Cup.
