Inter Milan sign England wing-back Djed Spence from Tottenham on five-year deal
Inter Milan have signed England wing-back Djed Spence from Tottenham on a five-year contract until June 2031, with the fee reported at around £30 million or 35 million euros including bonuses.

Inter Milan announced the signing of England international Djed Spence from Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, with the 26-year-old wing-back signing a contract running until June 30, 2031. The Serie A champions confirmed the permanent transfer on their official website, making Spence the second English player to join the club this summer after John Stones, who arrived on a two-year deal following the expiration of his Manchester City contract.
The fee was reported at around £30 million ($40.59 million) by British media, while Portuguese outlets put the total at 35 million euros including bonuses. According to one report, Tottenham will receive approximately 31.5 million euros immediately, with up to 3.5 million euros in additional bonuses and a 10 per cent sell-on clause on any future transfer.

Spence's Tottenham tenure
Spence joined Tottenham from Middlesbrough for an initial £12.5 million in the summer of 2022 and made 85 appearances for the club, scoring two goals and providing three assists. He spent time on loan at Nottingham Forest, Stade Rennais, Leeds United and Genoa before establishing himself in the first team. He was part of the Tottenham side that won the 2024-25 Europa League, with the final played in Bilbao.

Last season, Spence made 43 appearances in all competitions (one source says 44), but Tottenham signed left-back Andy Robertson from Liverpool and extended right-back Pedro Porro's contract in June. Manager Roberto de Zerbi had said in July he wanted to convince Spence to stay at the club.
World Cup and farewell
Spence featured in all eight of England's matches at the 2026 World Cup under Thomas Tuchel, starting in the semi-final defeat to Argentina and the third-place play-off win against France. England finished third. Before the announcement, Spence posted a farewell message on social media.

Role at Inter
Spence is seen as a replacement for Denzel Dumfries, who joined Real Madrid earlier in the summer. The defender arrived in Milan on Thursday night and completed medical examinations on Friday with both the club and the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI). His salary at Inter is reported at approximately 2.5 million euros per season plus performance-related bonuses. The announcement came about an hour before Inter's presentation match against Betis, where Spence was expected to greet supporters. This marks his second spell in Italy after a six-month loan at Genoa in 2024.
