Sparta Wrocław targets 20-point turnaround against Toruń in PGE Ekstraliga speedway final
Betard Sparta Wrocław hosts PRES Grupa Deweloperska Toruń on Sunday at Stadion Olimpijski, needing to overcome a 20-point first-leg deficit to win the Polish speedway title.
The deficit and final permutations
PRES Grupa Deweloperska Toruń visits Betard Sparta Wrocław on Sunday evening for the second leg of the PGE Ekstraliga final, defending a 55:35 lead established in the opening fixture. Wrocław needs to erase a 20-point aggregate deficit to secure a sixth Team Speedway Polish Championship gold medal. No team in the history of the PGE Ekstraliga playoff finals has overturned a margin of that size. The largest successful comeback in a final occurred in 2022, when Motor Lublin overcame a 12-point first-leg deficit against Stal Gorzów. If Wrocław wins by exactly 20 points to tie the aggregate score at 90:90, the hosts will claim the championship because they finished higher in the regular-season standings.
- Motor Lublin (2022)
- 12 pts
- Betard Sparta Wrocław (2026)
- 20 pts
Squad selections and injury concerns
Wrocław faces roster difficulties ahead of the second leg. Second-line rider Bartłomiej Kowalski has spent several weeks recovering from a shoulder injury, leaving his chances of competing minimal. Kowalski averaged 2.000 points per heat at home and scored 10 points with three bonus points against Toruń during the regular season. If Kowalski remains sidelined, juniors Mikkel Andersen and Marcel Kowolik will each ride in five heats to target points against the visiting youth riders. Wrocław sports director Piotr Protasiewicz addressed the challenge facing the host team.
We need an outstanding performance, which will be extremely difficult with Toruń's riders in such form. However, we are not waving the white flag and we will fight until the end.
Wrocław will also rely on senior riders Artiom Łaguta, Daniel Bewley, Maciej Janowski, and Brady Kurtz, though Janowski and Kurtz enter the decider following weaker individual outings.
Toruń's form and championship defence
Toruń enters the second leg seeking to defend the Polish team title for the first time in club history, having fallen short in four previous attempts. In the opening leg at the Motoarena, Toruń led 25:23 after eight heats before outscoring Wrocław 30:12 across the final seven heats. Mikkel Michelsen recorded double-digit scores in every playoff fixture, posting an average of 2.649 points per heat to lead all riders in the medal round. Toruń also features 2026 individual world champion Robert Lambert alongside Patryk Dudek, Emil Sajfutdinow, and Norick Bloedorn. Former speedway manager Sławomir Kryjom commented on the tactical options available to Toruń manager Piotr Baron.
Piotr Baron has four cannons in his squad, and last year's final showed that he will not hesitate to use them.
Venue schedule and transit arrangements
The final match at Stadion Olimpijski will start at 19:30 on Sunday. Club organizers will open an official fan zone at 16:30 outside the stadium, including an autograph session at 16:45 with Kowalski and Andersen. Public transport operator MPK Wrocław will run a dedicated T3 tram service between Dworzec Główny and the stadium, with trams departing every three to six minutes after the meeting concludes.
