Spain's BOE publishes 2027 work calendar with nine shared national holidays
The Official State Gazette (BOE) published Spain's 2027 labour calendar on 13 October 2026, setting nine holidays shared nationwide, plus regional days that create long weekends in several communities.
Nine shared national holidays
A resolution of the Dirección General de Trabajo, published in the Boletín Oficial del Estado (BOE) on 13 October 2026, fixes the 2027 labour calendar for Spain. It sets nine holidays that apply across the whole country, the same number as this year according to the reports. The shared dates run from 1 January (New Year's Day) and 6 January (Epiphany) through 26 March (Good Friday), 1 May (Labour Day), 12 October (National Day), 1 November (All Saints), 6 December (Constitution Day), 8 December (Immaculate Conception) and 25 December (Christmas).
- New Year's Day (Año Nuevo)
- Epiphany (Día de Reyes)
- Good Friday (Viernes Santo)
- Labour Day (Fiesta del Trabajo)
- National Day (Fiesta Nacional de España)
- All Saints (Todos los Santos)
- Constitution Day (Día de la Constitución)
- Immaculate Conception (Inmaculada Concepción)
- Christmas (Natividad del Señor)
The reports agree on the count but not on every date. Several outlets list 15 August (Asunción de la Virgen) among the shared holidays, while the Europa Press report from Asturias says the feast falls on a Sunday in 2027 and moves the holiday to 16 August in that region. Communities may move some common holidays to another day, which the resolution allows them to do.
Regional and local holidays
Maundy Thursday, 25 March, is a holiday across Spain except Catalonia and the Valencian Community, while Epiphany on 6 January stays a holiday in every community. San José on 19 March is a regional holiday in Galicia, Madrid, Murcia, Navarra and the Valencian Community. Easter Monday on 29 March is a holiday in the Balearics, Catalonia, Navarra, the Basque Country, the Valencian Community and La Rioja. According to the El Mundo report, 16 August is a regional holiday in Andalucía, Aragón, Asturias, Canarias, Castilla y León and the Comunidad de Madrid.
Galicia's Xunta approved its calendar in June and published it in the Diario Oficial de Galicia on 2 July. Because the Día Nacional de Galicia on 25 July falls on a Sunday in 2027, the Xunta chose San José as the holiday, and it replaces the Sunday holiday of 15 August with Día de las Letras Gallegas on 17 May. Each municipality sets two local holidays, which brings the total to 14 days in most regions. Asturias has 12 holidays in total, and its 78 municipalities publish their local days in the Boletín Oficial del Principado de Asturias, such as 18 May and 21 September in Oviedo.
Long weekends and the 2026 bridge
Europe Press reports that every community gets at least four long weekends in 2027, around 1 January, 26 March, 1 November and the Constitution Day holiday on 6 December. The 6 December bridge is expected to be the longest of 2027 for workers who can take the free day. In Andalucía, the Constitution and Immaculate Conception holidays form a long bridge, and a personal day on 7 December would extend the break to five consecutive days off. In Galicia, San José on 19 March pairs with the weekend, and the Día de las Letras Gallegas on 17 May falls on a Monday.
El Mundo also reports on the bridge due this year. Because 1 November and 6 December 2026 fall on Sundays, nine communities (Andalucía, Aragón, Asturias, Canarias, Castilla-La Mancha, Castilla y León, Extremadura, the Comunidad de Madrid and Navarra) get three days off from 31 October to 2 November. Cantabria, Cataluña, the Comunitat Valenciana, Galicia, Baleares, La Rioja, the Basque Country and Murcia, along with Ceuta and Melilla, have no holiday on 2 November.
