The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) executive board unanimously ratified a six-year contract extension for men's national team coach Luis de la Fuente on Monday. Meeting at the Ciudad del Fútbol in Las Rozas, Madrid, the federation leadership under president Rafael Louzán formalized the terms agreed during the 2026 World Cup. The 65-year-old manager is now contracted to lead the national team through the 2032 European Championship in Italy and Turkey. Federation officials confirmed that the agreement includes an increased salary and marks the longest contractual tenure agreed for a Spain manager. If De la Fuente completes the full agreement, his decade in charge will make him Spain's second-longest-serving coach behind Ladislao Kubala, who managed the squad for 11 years between 1969 and 1980.

Since taking over the national team in late 2022 after Luis Enrique stepped down, De la Fuente has managed 50 matches for Spain. His tenure includes 38 victories, 10 draws, and two defeats, with the only competitive loss occurring against Scotland alongside a friendly defeat against Colombia in London. Spain enters the autumn on a 38-match unbeaten streak across all competitions. The extended contract covers three upcoming international tournaments across the next six years. Spain will first seek to defend their continental title at Euro 2028 in Great Britain and Ireland. Two years later, De la Fuente will lead the team at the 2030 World Cup, which Spain is co-hosting alongside Portugal and Morocco, featuring centenary fixtures in Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay. The contract concludes after the 2032 European Championship in Italy and Turkey.
