Sinner edges past Borges in two tiebreaks, sets up Wimbledon third-round clash with Brooksby
Jannik Sinner defeated Nuno Borges 7-6(4), 7-6(2), 6-4 to reach the third round at Wimbledon, where he will face American Jenson Brooksby.
Tight first two sets decided by tiebreaks
Both of the opening sets were settled in tiebreaks after neither man could break early. Sinner claimed the first breaker 7-4, then fought off a set point in the second before pulling away 7-2. Borges held his own on serve for long stretches, pushing the world No. 1 deeper than the straight-set scoreline suggests.

Sinner leaned heavily on his serve, firing 22 aces to Borges’s six and winning 82 percent of points behind his first delivery. The Portuguese struggled on second serve, winning only 34 percent of those points, which gave Sinner the openings he needed in the third set.

Sinner admits rust after Roland Garros exit
The Italian had needed five sets to beat Miomir Kecmanovic in the opening round and acknowledged he is still searching for top form.The second set was very difficult, but the serve was good and I was in control of the match.
He said he would use the rest day to continue working on a couple of things.The lack of matches after Paris put me in difficulty, but this type of match is helping me regain rhythm.

Awaiting Sinner in the last 32 is Jenson Brooksby, ranked 81st, who dismissed Peruvian Ignacio Buse 6-2, 6-2, 6-3. Brooksby served an 18‑month suspension in 2023 after missing a doping control. The two have met only once before, in 2021 in Washington, with Sinner winning 7-6, 6-1.
