Samsung reveals Galaxy Buds On clip-style open earbuds for 299,000 won
Samsung announced the Galaxy Buds On, an open-ear model releasing first in South Korea on October 27 for 299,000 won before reaching international markets.
Entry into the open-ear segment
Samsung officially introduced the Galaxy Buds On on October 1, marking the manufacturer's first entry into the open-ear clip headphone category. The announcement follows weeks of preliminary leaks and positions Samsung alongside rival hardware makers including Bose, Huawei, Sony, and Shokz. The device features a C-shaped clip profile terminating in a spherical speaker housing that latches onto the outer ear. By avoiding insertion into the ear canal, the open design allows runners, cyclists, and commuters to maintain awareness of approaching traffic and outdoor surroundings. Samsung stated that its engineers evaluated multiple ear geometries during development to position the internal battery and speaker elements so the clips remain secure during walking and physical exercise.
Acoustic engineering and internal hardware
Open-ear clip headphones traditionally encounter acoustic limitations regarding low-frequency response and external audio leakage. To counteract these characteristics, Samsung equipped the Galaxy Buds On with a dedicated Class D amplifier and a proprietary TwinBoost speaker system designed to increase bass output. The earbuds are powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon S7 Gen 1 processor, which drives real-time audio processing and dynamic adjustments. An automatic volume control system adapts output levels according to environmental sound changes, while targeted audio containment minimizes sound bleed in quiet indoor locations such as libraries and cafes. The absence of an active noise cancellation system helps the earbuds achieve up to 9.5 hours of continuous audio playback on a single battery charge.
Controls, voice isolation and AI integration
For voice communication, the Galaxy Buds On feature three built-in microphones paired with a dedicated voice vibration sensor. This combination processes speech signals and separates the user's voice from ambient background noise during phone calls. Physical playback controls are positioned on the rear exterior of each bud, including a touch-sensitive zone where a sustained press activates a Quick Voice Memo tool. Samsung integrated hands-free navigation using internal sensors that detect head movements, allowing users to answer incoming calls, decline connections, read incoming notifications, or dismiss alarms with simple head gestures. When connected to compatible Samsung smartphones or tablets, the earbuds also interface directly with Galaxy AI software and Google's Gemini Live conversational assistant.
South Korean release and international rollout
The Galaxy Buds On will make their retail debut in South Korea on October 27, priced at 299,000 won (equivalent to roughly $220 or €195). Samsung plans to offer the device exclusively in a single black colorway during the initial release window. The external charging case closely resembles the case design previously introduced with the Galaxy Buds 4 lineup. Samsung clarified that the clip-on design is intended to complement its traditional in-ear offerings, including the Galaxy Buds 4 and Galaxy Buds 4 Pro, rather than serving as a direct replacement. Although Samsung confirmed that a broader international distribution will follow the initial domestic availability, the company has not published regional timetables, market allocations, or overseas pricing.
