Mohamed Salah set to join Trabzonspor on two-year deal after leaving Liverpool
The Egyptian forward, 34, is expected in Istanbul on Wednesday for a medical before signing a contract worth a reported 17 million euros per year.
The announcement
Trabzonspor confirmed on Tuesday evening that negotiations with Mohamed Salah are underway. A post on the club's X account stated the player would arrive at Istanbul's Ataturk Airport at noon on Wednesday, before travelling to Trabzon the same evening. The club also released a 17-second teaser clip showing a pyramid and a football stadium.
The footballer Mohamed Salah, with whom we have started transfer negotiations, will be present tomorrow at 12:00 at Ataturk Airport in Istanbul. The player is expected to arrive in Trabzon the same day, in the evening.
The contract
Turkish media outlets report Salah has agreed a two-year contract with an option for a further season. His annual salary is widely cited at 17 million euros. The deal comes after his Liverpool contract expired this summer, allowing him to move on a free transfer.
Beating Besiktas
Salah had also been courted by Besiktas, and according to reports had reached a verbal agreement with the Istanbul club. Trabzonspor entered the race in early August and submitted a more attractive financial offer, diverting the player from his initial destination.
Liverpool legacy
Salah spent nine seasons at Liverpool after joining from AS Roma in 2017. He scored 257 goals and provided 123 assists in 442 appearances for the club. His honours include two Premier League titles (2020 and 2025) and the 2019 Champions League. His final season under manager Arne Slot was below his usual standards, with 12 goals and 10 assists in 41 matches, and he was reportedly dissatisfied with his playing time.
Salah, who had also been approached by Besiktas, is to sign a two-season contract with an optional extra year, and will earn 17 million euros per year, according to several Turkish media outlets.
What Trabzonspor gets
Trabzonspor, the 2022 Turkish champions, finished third in the Süper Lig last season and will enter the Europa League play-offs. The club is the only Anatolian side to consistently challenge the Istanbul trio of Galatasaray, Fenerbahçe, and Besiktas. Salah arrives as a free agent, bringing 66 goals in 119 caps for Egypt and a reputation built across stints at Basel, Roma, and Liverpool.
