Over 33,000 candidates set for Mathematics and History exams in Romanian Baccalaureate 2026 autumn session

Exam day schedule

On Tuesday, 11 August 2026, over 33,000 candidates registered for the autumn session of the Romanian Baccalaureate will sit the mandatory profile exam, choosing between Mathematics and History depending on their track and specialization. The test begins at 9:00 AM, with candidates given three hours (180 minutes) to complete the subjects. Access to exam rooms closes at 8:30 AM, and candidates must present a valid identity document. The subjects will be published at 15:00 on the Ministry of Education website.

According to the Ministry of Education, the over 33,000 registered candidates represent nearly 10% more than the previous year. Of these, over 22,000 come from the current graduating class, while over 11,000 are from previous years. Candidates who have already passed certain exams in prior sessions may have those grades recognized and need only sit the exams they have not yet passed. The figure reflects total registrations for the August session, not the number sitting Tuesday's Mathematics or History exam specifically.

Exam rules and procedures

The subjects are prepared by the National Center for Curriculum and Evaluation and transmitted simultaneously to all exam centers organized at national level. Before the subjects are distributed, candidates fill in their personal data in the designated space on the standardized form. Candidates must write only in blue ink, with black pencil permitted for diagrams and drawings. For the Mathematics exam, drawing instruments are allowed, but calculators and any electronic devices are strictly prohibited. All exam rooms are equipped with functional video and audio surveillance cameras.

Introducing forbidden materials into exam rooms, including phones, manuals, dictionaries, notes, or any electronic communication or calculation device, results in immediate disqualification of the candidate, regardless of whether those materials or devices were actually used. Communication between participants during the exam is also prohibited. Candidates who finish before the three hours expire may submit their work, but may only leave the room after at least one hour has passed from the distribution of subjects. In exceptional circumstances not attributable to participants, the exam duration may be extended by up to one additional hour.

Subject distribution by profile

Mathematics is taken by graduates of the real profile within the theoretical track, the technological profile, the military profile, and the pedagogical profile (teacher or educator specialization) within the vocational track. History is taken by graduates of the humanities profile within the theoretical track and those in vocational tracks where History is the mandatory subject. The subjects differ by specialization within each profile. Candidates enrolled in evening or reduced-frequency forms of education also participate in this session.

Full exam calendar and results timeline

The written exams of the autumn session run from 10 to 13 August. The Romanian Language and Literature exam (E.a) took place on 10 August. The mandatory profile exam (E.c), Mathematics or History, follows on 11 August. The profile and specialization choice exam (E.d) is scheduled for 12 August, and the Mother Tongue Language and Literature exam (E.b) on 13 August.

First results will be displayed on 18 August 2026, when the period for viewing exam papers and filing appeals also begins. Final results, after appeals are resolved, will be published on 24 August. To pass the Baccalaureate, a candidate must achieve at least a grade of 5 in each written exam and an average of at least 6 across all written exams. In the summer session, the Mathematics exam was held on 1 July, having been postponed by one day from its originally scheduled date of 30 June due to a heatwave.
